Last Sunday, I was inspired by the encouragement of a great spiritual leader. President Henry B. Eyring said:
I watched and heard him say this during the last semi-annual conference in November viewed via satellite feed all over the Philippines. But last Sunday was a more “in-your-face” kind of inspiration. I was reminded of how he decided never to miss a single day of writing down just in simple words his observations of how the Lord’s hands have been over his or his family’s life every day. Simple, right? No need for highfalutin’ stuff. Just a simple question and a simple answer each day. Here’s what happened in his own words:
I had to take a deep breath at that. Isn’t it so true? When we get so busy, it’s easy to overlook the Lord’s hand in our lives. I struggle with that everyday. My 10-year old Valiant student last Sunday sighed when he said he has to “think of so many things every day” that it’s a constant struggle to remember God. That was a 10-year old speaking! What have we done to our children???
So, this question popped out:
The question really is more significant than the answer. President Eyring didn’t answer it, he just offered help. He says it takes the companionship of the Holy Ghost to always have God in our mental default settings. (the mental default setting thingie is mine of course, hehe).
So, here’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna spend some time with myself each day to record and remember God’s kindnesses to me, starting with this one:
“Thank you for reminding me to remember. It will extend precious spiritual moments and give this addled human brain some reason to shift to ‘eternal and celestial setting’.”
What about you? Would you like to share the evidence of God’s hands in your life yesterday or the past week?
